Counselors

As Coordinator of College Planning at a Governor's School in Virginia, I meet with groups of students several times a year to assist them with the major tasks involved in finding suitable colleges and applying to them. I believe my efforts have helped these busy teens fit college planning into their already overscheduled lives, but I've encountered two major challenges. First, there's never enough time. And second, there are several important aspects of college planning that require the active involvement of parents.

Even when I have the luxury of meeting privately with individual families, I find that it's difficult to tell parents all they need to know in the time available. Hence this website. I use the guide section, which you can access by clicking on the Roadmap button from any page, as a sort of electronic textbook, and the blog as a weekly update - an article on a timely topic. I hope you will find it useful as well.

As noted in the Terms of Use, you are welcome to link to the site, as long as you don't charge for access. You are not required to notify me if you link to the site, but I'd appreciate a quick e-mail just to let me know at ellen@hredconsulting.com.

I hope The Sidelines will be helpful to you and the parents you serve, and thank you for the very difficult, but very important, work that you do.
